What "10 ton" actually means
In the UAE the label is used loosely. Most of the time it describes payload, the weight of cargo the truck can carry, not the weight of the empty truck. The truck itself weighs several tonnes before anything is loaded. On common models the whole vehicle is around 9 to 9.5 metres long, 2.3 to 2.5 metres wide and close to 3 metres high, and the box body is typically 22 to 24 feet long. Exact sizes change between a Mercedes-Benz Actros class truck, a Hino 500 and an Isuzu F-series, so we confirm body length and height for your job before we send anything.
The height matters more than people expect. A 10 ton box truck cannot enter most basement car parks, and low gates, signs and tree branches near villas can stop one at the entrance. If you only need to move a one-bedroom flat, a 3 ton truck pickup is the better and cheaper vehicle.

Dubai truck rules that affect your booking in 2026
This is the part most rental pages skip. The RTA and Dubai Police announced that truck movement restrictions take effect across Dubai from 1 October 2026, in line with the peak-period controls already in force. Emirates Road is exempt from that decision. Restrictions vary by road, and Gulf News reported these examples:
- Around the clock: Al Qudra Street, Meydan Street, all marine bridges and the Airport Tunnel.
- 6am to 10pm: Sheikh Zayed Road and Beirut Street, plus residential areas such as Al Mizhar, Muhaisnah and Oud Al Muteena.
- Peak periods only: Airport Road, Oman Street and Damascus Street, from 6:30am to 8:30am, 1pm to 3pm and 5:30pm to 8pm.
The RTA says companies that must move trucks in restricted hours, in essential cases only, can apply for a heavy vehicle mobility permit through its Right-of-Way department, and that trucks can wait at designated rest areas. You can read the official notices on the RTA website.
What this means in practice. We treat every 10 ton job as a heavy-vehicle job when we plan the route. In the city that usually means loading early in the morning, in the evening or at night, and keeping the truck on permitted roads. A truck that arrives during a restricted window either waits, takes a long detour or risks a fine, and you pay for that time. Emirates Road is exempt from this October decision, but check any separate time limits on it before you rely on it. The exact list of roads and covered vehicles can change, so confirm it on the RTA site for your date.
Salik and tolls on a 10 ton run
Every Salik gate crossing is charged. At the time of writing the rate is AED 6 at weekday peaks (6am to 10am and 4pm to 8pm), AED 4 off-peak and free from 1am to 6am, with 5% VAT added since June 2026. - Booking by tonnage alone. Check volume as well as weight, because a truck can be full long before it is heavy.
- Ignoring height. Basement car parks, low gates and branches stop a truck at the entrance.
- Not asking about restricted hours. Waiting time and fines can cost more than the rental.
- Forgetting the building or community. Villa communities and towers often need notice for large vehicles and lift bookings.
- No plan for unloading. A full truck with no forklift or loaders at the other end sits idle.
- Comparing prices only. Ask whether the quote includes the driver, loaders, Salik, fuel, waiting time and the return trip.
